“Glenchella is gonna be a howdy dance on steroids”, said Rene Gonzalez, the activities director.
With music, food, games, and dances, it is promised to have all the fun of the back to school dance and ambiance of a music festival at the same time.
At first, many students have wondered if Glenchella is going to be just a dance or an event like Coachella. While no one can predict what the general atmosphere of the dance is going to be like, Gonzalez conveyed that it is going to be a music festival with all kinds of events and activities to choose from and enjoy.
The area of the festival includes the gym, event center, and the outside area in-between the two buildings. The event center will host the mosh pit as it has done in the past; however, there might also be live performances and a master of ceremonies who will work with the DJ to bring the dance to another level.
On the other side, the main gym will have the games and four large inflatable obstacle courses. There will also be giant video games projected on walls where students can unleash their true, inner gamer-self through these interactive video walls.
The silent disco is a new favorite introduced at the last dance and will be staged in front of the girl’s locker room, featuring wireless headphones and a variety of music stations to dance to.
All these fun games will surely make everyone hungry for some good food to munch on during the festival. Due to popular demand, there will be a boba truck as well as other delicious options such as a grilled cheese, a taco, and a churro and ice cream food truck. ASB encourages students to bring some money to try all these foods, but students can rest assured that the food will not be as expensive as it is in Disneyland.
Remember that tickets go on sale in the student store, February 11 to 14, for $25 with an ASB card or $35 without. The prices go up $5 per day for the following week and the first 500 students to buy a ticket will get a cool wristband as an extra incentive to get their ticket early!
Like a festival, Gonzalez envisions a casual dance compared to formal dances like Prom and Homecoming. Don’t stress about which pair of shoes, clothes, dates, or bus lists to come to the dance with, just come prepared to have a fabulous and exciting time with classmates!
