Yenna Thai

Senior Yenna Thai has been meticulously curating her own art style in and outside of her photography classroom with Mr. Dubransky.  Since developing skills in various different types of cameras and subjects, she has been posting weekly on her personal instagram account, @yennslens, for almost 50 weeks straight!

Q: Now that you’re reaching 50 weeks - your personal goal - what are the biggest changes you’ve seen in terms of your own progress as a photographer?
A: “I think it’s how I tell a story in photography. At the beginning, I was kind of just taking whatever and compiling them into a collage, or like a reel, but now I’ve been focusing more on an actual story, especially through editing and special effects.”

Q: What is your favorite composition technique?
A: “My favorite is framing because I love it when you use the frame to pull the viewer's eye to the center or into the subject I want them to look at.”

Q: Tell us about your AP portfolio!
A: “My AP portfolio is about how urbanization has affected wild life, like how you see the coyotes roaming the streets, and you think ‘Where do they go at night and how do they eat,’ but you just drive away, so my AP portfolio explores what happens to those animals.”

Q: How has your relationship with cameras evolved over time?
A: “It’s changed a ton because before I took the photography class here at GHS, I was mainly just using my phone, and now I’ve been able to try out around 5 different types of cameras to see what I like better and to see what kinds of styles I like to do. My favorite thing is the zoom on the nicer cameras; they do not compare to the phones.”

Q: Do you see yourself continuing to do such challenges or just keeping up your cinematography Instagram in college?
A: “I think I definitely will, I’m not going to do the weekly thing because it was a lot more work than I initially anticipated, but I really liked looking back and seeing however many months and years ago I fought and created.”
