When you think of Fall, what do you think of?

Fall was originally referred to as “harvest,” as it was the time when farmers would harvest their crops. It is also called Autumn, from the Latin word “autumnus,” meaning to increase or harvest. The term “fall” emerged from the phrase “fall of the leaves.” This phrase came to North America from the English settlers who adopted
it in the 18th and 19th centuries. This phrase became more popular than autumn in the United States.
The traditions of fall vary, depending on your family and the area you live in. From apple picking and looking at pumpkin patches to Harvest Festivals all over the world, every place shares a special tradition for Fall. Some common traditions in the US include going pumpkin picking, visiting a corn maze, carving Jack-o'-Lanterns,

baking pumpkin-spiced treats, and even taking a hike to see the beautiful colored leaves.
When people think of Fall, many people’s minds quickly rush to thinking about Pumpkin Spice and Gilmore Girls. There are so many different reasons why people love it. It could be due to the reason that the weather is cooling down, a nice contrast from the heat during summer. Others feel that it is starting to represent the holiday season, as Halloween and Thanksgiving are approaching. Perhaps it is the beautiful change of scenery as the color of the leaves changes. What does fall look like to people at Glendora High School? Mrs. Rollon, Anatomy and Honors Biology teacher states: “I think of the large pumpkin at Disney. Also, pumpkin bread, cooler weather, and Halloween!” Audrey Albert, Sophomore states: “I think of the leaves changing color and I think of Halloween. One of the best parts of fall is making my Halloween costume because I do it with my grandma and it’s so much fun!”
The season of Fall looks different around the world, even in the United States. If you compare it with the East Coast, there are noticeable differences in its seasons. In New York, there are changes in nature and scenery. For example, the vivid change in the color of leaves. However, it is not as drastic a change in California. Nonetheless, there is undeniable beauty in both places.
As the weather gets cooler, many people get excited as the fashion style changes and new outfits come out for the season. Long sleeves and sweaters start coming back into style to stay warm. And of course, combat boots are starting to become popular again! The best part is everyone has a unique addition to their style.
Fall means different things to different people. Personally, fall reminds me of the weather cooling down and starting to dress cozy. It is a great reminder that the holiday season is approaching. I always look forward to the pumpkin spiced drinks at coffee shops. And, of course, warm pumpkin spiced treats are always exciting!
