Madeleine Adi

Maddie Adi, a Junior at Glendora High School is an inspired writer who gathers ideas from views surrounding the changing world, personal feelings and experiences, and from Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. She uses Haruki Murakami's dream-like imagery to create her own creative style and encourages her to explore deeper themes in her writing.
Using these inspirations mentioned she created an award winning story “On Carving a Spoon.” Which was produced by her views in the wake of AI. Her goal when creating this story was to hopefully stimulate others into going into the creative fields.
To stay focused and motivated while writing, Maddie follows what she called the “Steinbeck Method,” inspired by the habits of author John Steinbeck. Which consists of locking herself in a room for two to four hours.

Q: What stories have you created that you're most proud of?

A: I think my favorite story that I've created is a flash fiction piece called previews, which is about a man who sees the movie of his entire life right before he dies.

Q: What inspired you to create this story?

A: I think it was kind of a mix of this kind of transient feeling I get after watching a really good movie, how two hours in a movie can pass and you're left kind of feeling like it was only ten minutes. And it was a mix of that and Haruki Murakami's dream-like imagery. And I think both of that combined together to make a really psychedelic, eclectic experience.

Q: You created a short story called On Carving a Spoon. What do you hope readers think or feel by the end of the story?

A: The creation, the story was mostly driven by how I personally fell as a writer in the wake of AI. So I hope that the focus on the individual and the creation of art and On Carving a Spoon inspires a lot more people to pick up the creative fields, even now when it seems like the creative fields are becoming useless to the greater public.
